My husband and I manned the Cabot Head Lighthouse for one week.
My husband is originally from London England, and I am from Holland Landing. I had a friend up here and came to visit her. As we rounded the highway, my husband saw Lake Huron and said “We have to retire here, this reminds me of the ocean”. So then we retired here.
A couple of years later, we applied to man the lighthouse. We would have 300 people or so, come and see the lighthouse every day.
We would take a three legged table up the steps to the very top of the lighthouse every night, to see the sunsets. We had a 360 degree view. We also saw water spouts and lightening. It was a fantastic way to end our day.
We had to learn all about the area and the museum items, to be able to tell our visitors.
